Deputy Commanding General, Army Reserve, CASCOM
Brigadier GeneralChristopher J. Niewind
Brigadier General Christopher J. Niewind enlisted in the United States Army Reserves in 1993 and received his commission in 1997 as an Armor Officer through the Reserve Officer Training Corps at Mankato State University in Mankato, Minnesota. He is a graduate of the Armor Officer Basic and Captain’s Career Courses, Combined Arms Services & Staff School, Command and General Staff College, and the U.S Army War College.
His command assignments include Bravo Company, 2nd Battalion, 70th Armored Regiment, 1st Armored Division, Fort Riley, Kansas; 395th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, Middletown, Connecticut; Joint Special Operations Forces Support Detachment-Kuwait in support of Operations Inherent Result and Spartan Shield; and 3rd Brigade, 98th Training Division (Individual Entry Training), Buffalo, New York.
Previous non-command assignments include service as an Armor Platoon Leader, Scout Platoon Leader, Battalion Maintenance Officer, and S-3 Operations Officer with 1st Armored Division in Friedberg, Germany and Fort Riley, Kansas; Brigade Chief of Plans, 5th Armored Brigade, Fort Bliss, Texas; Exercise Plans Officer, 75th Training Division, Fort Sheridan, Illinois; Knowledge Management Chief, Joint Enabling Capabilities Command, Norfolk, Virginia; Chief of Staff, 316th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary), Coraopolis, Pennsylvania; and Deputy Commander, 98th Training Division (IET), Ft. Benning, Georgia.
Brigadier General Niewind holds a master’s degrees in management and leadership from Webster University and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College, and a bachelor’s degree in education from Mankato State University. His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with 3 OLC, the Army Commendation Medal with 2 OLC, the Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Army Achievement Medal with 5 OLC, War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.
