BG Troy E. Armstrong assumed the role of Deputy Commanding General for the Army National Guard at the Combined Arms Support Command in February 2025. Additionally, he has served as the Assistant Adjutant General - Army for the Nevada National Guard since March 2022. Previously, BG Armstrong served as the Land Component Commander of the Nevada Army National Guard.

BG Armstrong is originally from Minot, North Dakota. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves in 1988 and completed his infantry training at Fort Benning, Georgia. After graduating from Moorhead State University in 1991, he relocated to Nevada and joined the Nevada Army National Guard. He then enrolled in the Nevada Officer Candidate School (OCS) program and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in Armor in 1996.

As a commissioned officer, BG Armstrong has served in every command position from platoon leader through brigade and state land component command. In 2001, he mobilized with the 72nd Military Police Company in support of Operation Noble Eagle. He mobilized again in 2003 and 2005 as the Company Commander in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. In 2007, he was the Senior Enemy Prisoner of War Officer for the 140th Military Police Brigade Liaison Detachment. In 2008, he deployed with his unit in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and served as the Deputy J7 for Task Force 134 (Detention Operations), Multi-National Forces Iraq.

From 2009-2015, Armstrong served in the 17th Sustainment Brigade as a Battalion and Brigade Support Operations Officer and Deputy Brigade Commander. In 2015, he assumed command of the 17th Special Troops Battalion and deployed with the unit in 2016 in support of Operation Spartan Shield, providing theater gateway and personnel services support throughout CENTCOM. In 2018, following his assignment with NV Joint Force Headquarters and his completion of the College of Naval Warfare, Armstrong was selected to command the 17th Sustainment Brigade. From November 2020 through September 2024, he served as Land Component Commander of the Nevada Army National Guard.

In his civilian capacity, BG Armstrong served nearly 30 years in the Clark County Department of Family Services. He currently serves as the Director of Child Protection Investigations for the Unaccompanied Minor Bureau, Office of Refugee Resettlement, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

BG Armstrong’s military education includes the Armor and Ordnance Basic Officer Course, Military Police Advance Course, U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, Brigade Pre-Command course, US Naval War College, Dual Status Commanders Course, and Army Senior Leader Development Seminar.

BG Armstrong's awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Meritorious Service Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Combat Action Badge, the Joint Meritorious Unit Award, the Iraq Campaign Medal, and both the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.
